Insider Secrets: Your Guide to an Unforgettable Wedding Video

Wedding videos are more than just capturing moments; they're about weaving a narrative of love and commitment. To achieve this, you need an eye for storytelling and the expertise to translate this onto film. That's why we've enlisted an expert to share how you can get the best wedding film possible…

As a wedding videographer, Timothy Blacketer, Creative Director at Above Below Visuals crafts story-driven wedding films that capture his couples' personalities and uniqueness. Over the years he’s learned a thing or two about what makes for an unforgettable wedding film. Here are his hot tips…

Communicate Your Vision: Communication is key when it comes to planning your wedding and ultimately, receiving a wedding film that tells your story. Take the time to sit down with your videographer and clearly communicate your vision. Share what get's you excited about your wedding! What are some of the significant moments for each of you? are their any moments that specifically stand out as something that brings a smile to your face?  It's this information that really allows your wedding videographer to get to know you, understand you - to be able to better tell your story.

Choosing the right wedding videographer: Ask any newlywed couple, and most will say their wedding day was a blur. Months of planning and preparation culminate in a few hours filled with laughter, love, and probably an Aperol or three. Before you know it, your wedding day is done. So how do you choose the right wedding videographer for you? For me, the right wedding videographer is one that understands you, get's your vision and is aligned with your values. A wedding videographer is a storyteller that's able to tell your story, your way. So schedule a meeting and do a vibe check. Can you see yourself spending a day with this person?

Trust Your Videographer: While it's important to communicate your desires, it's also crucial to trust your videographer's expertise and creative instincts. Remember that you've hired them for a reason—they have the skills and experience to capture your day in the best possible way that's aligned with who you both are. Trust their judgment when it comes to capturing moments, choosing locations, and making creative decisions.

Be Present in the Moment: One of the biggest challenges I often see couples face is being present in the moment on their wedding day. With so much excitement and activity happening around you, it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind and forget to take it all in. Schedule some time in your runsheet to just enjoy cocktail hour. Maybe even 15 minutes to take a walk with your partner without anyone around. Your wedding day flys by, so by making time to just be in the moment you're allowing yourself to decompress with your partner and enjoy the moment at hand. Your videographer will be there to capture it all, allowing you to relive those precious moments for years to come.

Relax and Have Fun: Wedding days can be stressful without guidance or proper time management. Remember that this day is about celebrating your love and commitment to each other, so relax and enjoy the ride. Once your wedding day arrives, let go of that runsheet and trust that your videographer and vendors will take care of everything else, allowing you to focus on having fun and making memories with your loved ones.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff: It's easy to get caught up in the little details and minor mishaps that inevitably occur on wedding days, but try not to sweat the small stuff. Remember that imperfections are part of what makes your day unique and memorable. Focus on the bigger picture and the love you share with your partner, and trust that your videographer will capture the beauty and emotion of your day, regardless of any minor hiccups.
