Wedding Dress Do's & Don'ts

Choosing your perfect wedding dress is actually harder than you think, especially as there are SO many beautiful gowns, so here's the insider do's & don'ts - to help you out a little!

Wedding dress do’s and dont’s

DON’T book your wedding dress fitting late in the day.
The earlier your appointment, the more energetic and fresh your bridal designer, will be as they wouldn’t have dealt with the concerns of a million clients already.

DO focus on finding the best silhouette for you.
Details are important— but it’s important to first figure out which silhouette that works best for you. Focus on your body shape, your personal style and what is going to flatter you the most.

Wedding Dress Do's & Don'ts

DON’T forget about the top of your wedding dress.
A long, gorgeous wedding dress with a detailed hem is heaven, but it’s the top of your dress is what people will notice most—and what will appear in most of your wedding photos.

DON’T pick a wedding dress because it’s trendy.
A gown should be timeless. When you feel beautiful and glamorous in a gown that has both modern and traditional elements, and you feel like a better version of yourself when you’re wearing it, you’ve found your timeless gown. It’s something that will never go out of style.

DO try on as many wedding dresses as you need to…
Almost any dress can look gorgeous on a hanger (just as it can look terrible) so it’s important to try on as many dresses you need so you don’t rule out styles on first impressions.

…but DON’T try on too many wedding dresses. We’re not trying to confuse you – just don’t feel forced to try on more or fewer gowns than you want. Too many choices can add stress and confusion. Nine times out of 10, you will go back to your first favourite gown anyway, so go with your instincts.

Wedding Dress Do's & Don'ts

DO wear a gorgeous bra when you’re trying on wedding dresses.
You’re going to be in your underwear a lot while trying on dresses, catching a glimpse of a pretty bra is much more positive than seeing a ratty old grey one you’ve had for years. Plus, a well-fitting bra can actually help in your search. If you don’t have one, go to a lingerie shop and get fitted. You’re going to be wearing a gorgeous dress on your wedding day, so you’ll need a special bra to match!

DON’T feel like you must bring an audience when you try on wedding dresses.
Don’t feel compelled to take to many bridesmaids and friends with you to help with your dress search. Too many opinions, thoughts and negative comments can add stress that you don’t really need.

DO ask lots of questions while trying on wedding dresses.
Not just to your bridal designer—but also to yourself to make sure the dress you love is perfect all round. Ask yourself: “Do I feel beautiful, confident and comfortable? Can I dance in it? Can I sit down? Am I self-conscious about any part of my body in my dress?” Although a gown may look gorgeous, if you can’t move in it all night and feel trapped, it’s not the right one for you.
